The Daily Bugle subsequently dubs the scientist Doctor Octopus. Hiro rescues her, but Obake flees with the stolen money. Hiro and Willow coincidentally are there, and Obake takes Willow hostage. He robs a bank to fund a second experiment. Becoming increasingly influenced by the arms' AI, he decides to re-try his experiment. Upon regaining consciousness and seeing the carnage, Obake escapes and takes refuge at a harbor. Without the inhibitor chip, the arms have developed sentience and kills them. Hiro, as Spider-Hero, shuts the experiment down, destroying it in the process.Īt a hospital, doctors prepare to surgically remove Obake's harness. Obake refuses to shut down the reactor, which goes critical – killing his wife and burning the inhibitor chip blocking the arms from his nervous system. During a public demonstration that Hiro, Ralph and Jack attend, a power spike causes the fusion reactor to destabilize. While handling hazardous materials, Obake wears a harness of powerful robotic tentacle arms with artificial intelligence. Jack, who is now head of Oscorp's genetic and scientific research division, is sponsoring a fusion power project by nuclear scientist Obake, who befriends and mentors Hiro. Hiro also discovers that his aunt Willow is facing eviction, and finds himself suffering temporary, but recurring losses of his powers, often in life-threatening situations. One year after Robert Callaghan's death, Hiro Hamada, secretly the superhero Spider-Hero, is estranged from both his love interest GoGo Tomago and his best friends Wreck-It Ralph and Jack Frost.
